Use of COTAD’s Employer Identification Number (EIN)

COTAD is a non-profit organization which conducts its business through a unique Employer Identification Number (EIN) that allows us to identify all tax related activities to the IRS for tax purposes. While we receive many requests from COTAD Chapters to use our EIN for Chapter related activities, please note that COTAD’s EIN is unique only to the National COTAD organization and cannot be used for Chapter related financial activities.

We strongly suggest each COTAD Chapter apply for an EIN with the IRS. In order to establish tax exempt status, each COTAD Chapter must first apply for their own EIN. The simplest way to apply for your EIN is online via the IRS EIN Assistant. As soon as your application is complete and validated, you will be issued an EIN. There is no charge for this service.

Securing an EIN is a necessary step to establishing your COTAD Chapter for tax exempt status if you anticipate fundraising and/or collecting funds for future disbursement. This will ultimately help in keeping your regulatory, legal and financial matters in order.
